through the looking glass

i awaken
another dawn
seemingly no different
than the countless mornings before
my eyes refuse to allow the light in
my face presses deeper into the pillow
my body writhes beneath the sheets
i inhale fully
allowing the gentle air to fill me
my mind unaware that i have just
entered into wonderland
this place
to an outsider
looks no different than before
i too can forget how to see the splendor
but when i feel unease
when my soul is clouded by judgments
and old patterns of seeing
i don’t fight
i become soft
and this world of magic can now be known
surrender is the key
to a realm of wonder
where curiosity and gratitude
make every blade of grass radiant
each cloud absolute awe
i see the grace of the wind
as she breathes truth through the branches
the sun delicately placing her grace
against earth’s charmingly chaotic surface
to see every person as pure beauty
with each action
they stretch out their hand
reaching for acceptance
safety
and love
i am the witness
to this grand performance
and in these waking moments
i remember that the magnificence
or the mundane
or the stress
or the horror
is but a lens i choose to wear
